Who We Are

The Sarasota Police Foundation (SPF) was formed by city residents to support the officers of the Sarasota Police Department. The main objectives of SPF are to:

  1. Provide resources for improved equipment and training
  2. Foster open, bi-directional communication
  3. Recognize exceptional officer service and professionalism
  4. Educate citizens on key safety/security issues

SPF provides open support for the Sarasota Police Department. The Foundation is an independent 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, with no paid employees or consultants. Everyone involved in SPF volunteers their time. Funding comes from donations from individuals, businesses, foundations or fund raising events held by SPF. All monies raised or donations received go directly to support the Sarasota Police Department, through the efforts of the SPF.

In 2015-2016 fiscal year, the annual budget for the Sarasota Police Department is $30.2 million. Of this, only a small percentage is allocated for capital expenditures, with the majority of the budget dedicated to personnel and operational expenses. A very small portion of the annual budget is available for new equipment purchases, communication initiatives, education, training, or staff recognition. SPF seeks to fill this void by providing a vehicle for residents, foundations and businesses to contribute to the growth and success of the Sarasota Police Department.
